Keeping it Deep, Dark, and Underground

About Joelle Sedlmeyer
Joelle Sedlmeyer (AKA: DJ JSed)-
Grew up in Detroit going to parties in the 1990s and will never forget what I heard and felt. Now live in Bushwick Brooklyn working in photography and Djing for fun. Djing is about the 'People' for me-sharing music, and getting friends to dance. I love deep house, Tech house, Electro, Chillwave, and Synthpop.

How would you describe your music style, in non-technical terms?

Smooth and cinematic with a tinge of dark and deep bass.

How and why did you decide to become a DJ?

The Music and that excitement you get in the pit of your stomach when you drop a track at the perfect moment.

Tell us a bit about your fans.

Someone once told me they felt the passion in my set and they thought i shared something personal. These are people who appreciate deep house.

What are your top 3 influences? Doesn't have to musical.

three that influence my Djing: My job which is working in a famous photographic archive , memories of driving at night in Detroit, and a friend named Trystan who encouraged me to DJ.

Any guilty pleasure(s)?

Salsa, Chips, and Guacomole

All-time favorite track(s)?

Inner City- Good Life
Rhythim is Rhythim - Strings of Life
Claude VonStroke- Who's Afraid of Detroit

What is your favorite festival, why?

DEMF. When you see people older then your parents dancing to music only then can you see how it is ingrained in the culture of Detroit.

Funniest/weirdest thing that ever happened during a gig?

Someone asked me to play the theme song to the TV show SMASH. Huh?

What advice do you have for someone looking to book a DJ? Other than "book me!" ;)

Know what type of mood you want to set at your event. Understand that every DJ has a style that is specific.

Anything else you'd like to share (optional)?

Looking for gigs with a mix of people who love house music and if it's an outdoor space even better.
